Milestones
Bose
Corporation has built its reputation with an uncompromising commitment
to lifelike sound. Groundbreaking achievements have resulted in
historic milestones which form the foundation for our future endeavors.
1964 Founding of Bose
In the 1950s, Dr. Amar G. Bose observes that loudspeakers don't deliver
natural sound. Extensive research into the science of sound leads to
the formation of Bose Corporation.
1968 Birth of a Legend
Bose introduces the revolutionary 901® Direct/Reflecting® speaker. Its
unique blend of reflected and direct sound recreates an unprecedented
similarity to a live musical performance.
1972 Pro Loudspeakers
Bose enters the professional ranks by producing a loudspeaker system
designed exclusively for the demanding, discriminating tastes of the
professional musician.
1972 Syncom® Testing Computer
Bose establishes the proprietary Syncom computer that acoustically
measures speakers against a laboratory model to guarantee a level of
consistency and reliability.
1975 Bookshelf Speaker a Bestseller
Concert-like sound ... now in a bookshelf-size speaker. The 301®
Direct/Reflecting® speaker system combines lifelike performance,
versatility and affordability to become one of the world's top-selling
speakers.
1982 Quality Sound on Wheels
Bose unveils the first factory-installed sound system custom-designed
for a specific automobile. Today some of the world's most luxurious
cars feature Bose® sound systems, each one acoustically tailored to a
particular car model.
1984 Waveguide Speaker Technology
The challenge: experience the performance of a large, multi-component
stereo system from a compact, all-in-one system. A decade of research
results in the groundbreaking technology behind the Acoustic Wave®
music system.
1986 Acoustimass® Speaker Technology
This advancement allows tiny cube speakers to deliver concert-like
sound. The patented Acoustimass module provides deep low frequencies,
with no audible distortion, while hidden almost anywhere in the room.
1987 Inventor Of The Year
Acoustic
waveguide speaker technology garners praise from the scientific
community, earning Dr. Bose and Dr. William Short "Inventor of the
Year" honors.
1989 Headsets that Negate Noise
Bose
revolutionizes flying for pilots—and later, for passengers—with the
first Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headset. It actively reduces airplane
noise, enabling more effective noise reduction in a more comfortable
headset.
1990 A New Approach to Home Entertainment
Bose develops Lifestyle® systems. Proprietary technology and small,
elegant speaker design take home entertainment to a new level of
performance that continues to evolve, featuring surround sound systems
with music storage and easy expandability throughout the home.
1993 Radio Wakes Up an Industry
Patented
acoustic waveguide speaker technology is re-introduced in the
tabletop-sized Wave® radio. It redefines the concept of a radio,
delivering rich, deep sound not previously heard from a unit this small.
1993 Bricks and Mortar
Bose opens its first retail store in Kittery, Maine. Today, Bose
maintains 126 storefronts in North America alone and a growing number
of wholly owned subsidiaries worldwide.
1994 Making Sound Predictions
Bose introduces the Auditioner® audio demonstrator. It allows
architects and building managers to hear the exact acoustic performance
of a building's proposed sound system before the building is
constructed.
1995 Jewel Cube® Speaker
Just 4 1/2" tall with sound rivaling that of speakers many times their
size, these pioneering speakers further advance the Bose standard of
performance and elegance in a complete audio system.
1998 AudioPilot® Noise Compensation Circuitry
Bose introduces a new benchmark in vehicle noise compensation. A
microphone continuously monitors the total sound level inside a car,
and Bose digital electronics separate the music you want to hear from
the noise you don't.
1998 Next-Generation Headset
Bose is awarded the Aviation Consumer Magazine
"Product of the Year" for the newly launched Aviation Headset X,
featuring proprietary technology to help achieve an unmatched
combination of noise reduction, clear communication and comfortable fit.
1999 Videostage® 5 Decoding Circuitry
Innovative
technology, pioneered in select Lifestyle® home theater systems,
delivers a five-channel surround sound experience from any source, even
older mono TV shows and movies.
2001 3·2·1® Home Entertainment System
The
concept of "surround sound made simple" takes a leap forward. This
DVD-based system offers cinematic sweep from only two speakers and a
hideaway Acoustimass module.
2001 ADAPTiQ® Audio Calibration System
Bose solves a nagging sound reproduction problem: the acoustical impact
of a room's dimensions, contents, speaker placement and more. After an
easy, one-time setup, advanced circuitry automatically makes
adjustments so a Lifestyle® system consistently delivers a quality
Bose® performance.
2003 Mobile Surround Sound
Driver and passengers can now enjoy a true surround sound experience on
the road, even from conventional CDs. Bose unveils the auto industry's
first discrete 5.1 surround system in the Maybach 57/Maybach 62.
2003 Breakthrough for Musicians
The Personalized Amplification System™ allows musicians to finally hear
their performance as the audience does: clearly, distinctly and without
many of the inherent problems—and much of the equipment—involved in
live amplified music.
2004 Wave® Music System
Next-generation Wave® technology features a dual-tapered waveguide
enabling lower musical notes and crisper, more accurate tonal quality
across a wider spectrum of sound. Updated styling combines classic feel
with a larger display, more intuitive interface and slot-loaded CD
player.
2004 uMusic® Intelligent Playback System
Finally, an answer to disorganization and deadwood in your CD
collection. The uMusic® system digitally stores hundreds of music
selections, learns which ones a listener likes and dislikes, then
intuitively chooses music according to the listener's preferences.
2004 Gold Medal Sound
Bose Professional Systems division achieves its most extensive Olympic
presence to date at the summer games in Athens, providing sound for ten
different venues including the main Olympic Stadium, site of the
opening and closing ceremonies.
2004 iPod® Plays to the Crowd
The SoundDock® digital music system quickly becomes the sound standard
for iPod speaker systems, allowing iPod owners to listen unrestrained
by earbuds and share their music with others.
2004 Driving the Future
Bose moves beyond audio to unveil the revolutionary Bose suspension
system. Proprietary Bose software and hardware deliver a new standard
of comfort and control—a much smoother ride than any luxury sedan, with
less roll and pitch than any sports car.
2004 Motion Control Made Better
Bose leverages its expertise in power electronics, controls and
electromagnetic linear actuators to develop ElectroForce® linear motion
systems. The result is an unprecedented degree of speed and precision
in materials testing and future applications.
2005 Wireless Room-to-Room Expansion
The AL8 homewide wireless audio link allows Lifestyle® system owners to
enjoy their system in other rooms without having to run wires from the
main hub.
2005 Widescreen Sound from Any TV
The CineMate® digital home theater speaker system is designed to work
easily with your TV, DVD player and/or VCR to provide a cinematic sound
experience from just two speakers and a hideaway Acoustimass module.
