Skipping on certain DVDs

If your system can play some discs but has trouble playing others, try the following:

Be sure only certain discs are skipping.

Try several other discs. If all discs are skipping, see Skipping on all DVDs.

Be sure the problem is not related to a layer change on the disc.

If the pause occurs at the same place each time, it may be the DVDs layer change. Most DVD content is written across two layers on the disc. It is normal for movie audio and video to pause slightly as the laser transitions from one layer to the next. The pause should last only a few seconds.

Check for scratches, fingerprints or other physical damage.

The disc may be scratched or damaged which may prevent it from playing properly.

Be sure your system supports the type of disc you are trying to play.

If the issue is with certain types of discs, check that your system supports that type of disc. For more info, see Disc compatibility charts.

Check if the disc works in a different disc player.

If available, try playing the disc in a different disc player. If the same issue occurs, the issue is with the disc.

Reset your media center.

A reset is used to correct occasional product issues. It is not something that a product should require repeatedly. For more information, see Resetting your product.

Your media center may need service.
