SoundTouch 300 soundbar

Overview

Overview

You want the best sound.
So we made our best soundbar.

Many people view soundbars as a common solution to space-saving home cinema. But we don't aim for "common".

The SoundTouch 300 soundbar offers the best performance, spaciousness and bass of any one-piece soundbar of its size. Every cubic inch of it is packed with technologies that bring out the best in everything you listen to or watch. Custom drivers, proprietary QuietPort and PhaseGuide technology … and the feeling of hearing sounds where there are no speakers. It all adds up to a premium audio experience for all your entertainment.

… and it looks as good as it sounds

It's a statement in craftsmanship, really. This slim wireless soundbar features a premium glass top and perforated wrap-around metal grille that really draws the eye. And don't give that tempered glass top a second thought. It's as strong as aluminium of the same thickness—but much better looking.

Less effort, more music

With the SoundTouch 300 speaker, we put a lot of thought into taking the thinking out. And that extends well beyond its home cinema performance. When it comes to enjoying your music, you can listen whichever way you want, without worrying about which technology is best. This speaker lets you play music directly from a phone or tablet using Bluetooth®, or connect the speaker to your Wi-Fi® network for instant in-home listening, without the need for your phone.

Fast, simple control of all your music

Experience your favourite music from your SoundTouch® speaker with the SoundTouch® app. SoundTouch® lets you take total control of your listening experience. Browse popular music services such as Spotify® and Deezer, Internet radio or your stored music library. Easily personalise presets for one-touch access to the music you love, and control one or many SoundTouch® speakers around your home.

Want to kick it up a notch? Add more.

When you first hear the SoundTouch® 300 soundbar, you'll understand why we spent nearly 10 years perfecting the technologies that really make it sing. But you can have more, whenever you want. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic sound, room shaking bass Im an avid bose fan, i have the 901 series 6, stereo setup, but wanted something for the 75inch TV. Bought the soundbar in Dec for Xmas and just added the bass module last week. i compared the sound from the 901's to the soundbar and bass module, loved it!!! the 901's still give you an all round sound performance, but nothing to take away from the SB300. Movies come to life with the rumble and bass from the module. Love the sleek look as well as it compliments by entire system setup. keep up the research Bose!! very happy you guys are keeping unto date with technology.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big fan I just purchased the Bose SoundTouch 300 and Acoustimass 300 this weekend to upgrade my home theater system. Up front, I will tell you that I am very happy with the sound quality of both items when they are paired. I am a Bose fan and have been for years owning numerous Bose products. Set up was fairly straightforward. I have an older Samsung LED TV and was upgrading from one of those all in one Samsung home theater units with a built-in Blu-Ray player. I don’t use DVD anymore. I have Apple TV for my movies and streaming from my Apple products as needed. My original concern was the lack of inputs on the back of the sound bar itself. Basically, you have one HDMI connection and one optical digital connection and that is it. I ran my Direct TV connection to the back of my TV with HDMI and the same for the Apple TV and then used the optical digital connection output from the TV to the sound bar. Calibrating the system was pretty simple. You plug in the headphone looking thing (ADAPTiQ headset) and follow the commands once you press the right buttons on the included universal remote. Speaking of the remote, it is said to be universal but I could not get my TV to work or my Direct TV box to work so I went back to my trusty Logitech Harmony One which works like a champ. Zero issues there. Pairing the Acoustimass 300 was pretty easy, again, you do what the simple instructions tell you to do and that is it. What the instructions do not tell you is how to turn up the volume on the subwoofer. I had to call Bose to get that information. My current set-up is the sound bar and subwoofer and to me, it sounds amazing. I did increase the subwoofer volume two settings just because I wanted to see what it would do and I am impressed. We watched the TV show The Voice last night and the musical performances sounded great to me. Especially with that thumping base. Bose has an application for the iPhone and Android devices but (to me) is not that great. First of all, the sound bar has the ability to play music (once set up) straight from the application using services like Spotify. Pretty cool if you use them but I have playlists on my iPhone that I would prefer to play. You can do this but you have to go through the app on your phone to do this. That isn’t a big deal but what is a big deal when I want to go back and watch TV, I have to get the SoundTouch remote and physically press the TV button to change the output on the sound bar. That is a bit of a pain to do. My solution for that is to just use my Apple TV since that is using the TV output anyway. One less reason to use the remote. If Bose would include the ability to change the output or do the output automatically, that would be a huge gain for people like myself that are not using the remote. It seems like an extra step anyway. The sound bar has NFC in it but I didn’t see any instructions on how to make this work so I will have to take Bose’s word that it works. One more mention about the application is that if you have the Virtually Invisible 300 rear speakers, a new update to the sound bar and application allow you to change the volume of these rear speakers. That is pretty cool since the initial reports I have read said that the volume was low on these units. Since this upgrade has come out, I am now planning to add these rear channel speakers to my system. What the application will not allow you to do is change the volume/output of the subwoofer which is odd to me. The only way to change the output of the subwoofer is using the universal remote which again, I am not using. In a perfect world, the iPhone app would take care of everything for me where I could control output of the sound bar and adjust the subwoofer. I mentioned above that I called Bose for information on the Acoustimass 300. I had read on another site that the pair light on the far right of the lights was supposed to be lit when the unit was paired. Bose informed me that these lights would turn on when the unit was turned on to pair the units and then go away. It would be nice if there was documentation on what the lights mean because they turn different colors, flash, and stay on depending on what you are doing. When the pair light goes off, the Acoustimass 300 is paired if the light on the bottom of the subwoofer is white and not flashing. Who knew? The bottom line here is this. Would I recommend this sound bar? Absolutely. I love everything about it. My system sounds great and looks great too. I plan to add the rear channel speakers soon since I can adjust the volume for these units now using the iPhone app. I wish the iPhone application would allow me to change the output of the sound or the unit would automatically change depending on what it was receiving. I also wish that I could change the volume of the subwoofer through the application like you can the rear channel speakers. These are minor things and I have work arounds for them both. I hope that this review helps you with your decision to either purchase or not purchase the Bose SoundTouch 300 and its components.

FAQs

FAQs

Can the SoundTouch® 300 soundbar be wall-mounted?

Yes. The optional WB-300 wall bracket let you mount the SoundTouch® 300 flush to the wall.

How do I connect a Bluetooth® device with the SoundTouch® 300 soundbar using NFC?

Select the Bluetooth® source on the remote (or via the app). Ensure your mobile device has NFC turned on. Gently tap the device near the Bose® logo on the top of the SoundTouch® 300, and your device will automatically pair.

How do I connect a Bluetooth® device with the SoundTouch® 300 soundbar without using NFC?

Press and hold the Bluetooth® source button on the remote for several seconds until the light begins to flash. Ensure your mobile device is in pairing mode and select the SoundTouch® 300. You also can pair your mobile device to the SoundTouch® 300 using the SoundTouch® app. In the app, find the SoundTouch® 300 in the device tray, select "explore" and then select Bluetooth®. On your mobile device, select the SoundTouch® 300.

What kind of batteries does the remote control use?

The remote uses 4 alkaline AAA batteries.

How does the SoundTouch® 300 soundbar connect to a TV?

The simplest way to connect the SoundTouch® 300 is via an HDMI™ cable to your TV. If your TV has an "HDMI-ARC" connection, you should use that connection. If your TV does not have an HDMI™ connection, then you should connect the SoundTouch® 300 to the TV using an optical cable.

What placement guidelines should be considered to ensure optimal audio performance from the SoundTouch® 300 soundbar?

The SoundTouch® 300 uses the reflective surfaces of the room to deliver a spacious home cinema experience. To ensure optimal audio performance, the soundbar should be placed equidistant from each side wall and directly in front-centre of the TV. No objects should be placed on either side of the soundbar, nor should it be placed inside a cabinet, as this would result in a limited sound stage.

Can source devices, such as a cable box, iPod®, gaming system, etc., be connected directly to the SoundTouch® 300 soundbar?

Yes. For the simplest connection, you should connect all sources to the TV, and then connect the TV to the SoundTouch® 300 via HDMI-ARC. But if your TV does not have enough open HDMI™ ports, you can disconnect one source from a TV HDMI™ slot, then connect the SoundTouch® 300 to that open HDMI™ port. Then, connect that source to the soundbar and utilise the "pass-through" capability of the SoundTouch® 300.

Can I control the bass?

Yes. Bass can be controlled via the bass button on the universal IR remote control or via the settings menu in the SoundTouch® app.

Do I need a separate receiver with the SoundTouch® 300 soundbar?

No. The system connects directly to your TV.

Is the SoundTouch® 300 soundbar compatible with 4K video?

Yes, this system will pass through Ultra High Definition 4K video from a source device to the TV at 60 frames per second (FPS).

Does the SoundTouch® 300 soundbar have a headphone output?

No.

Can I use the SoundTouch® presets with the SoundTouch® 300 soundbar?

Yes, like other SoundTouch® systems, the SoundTouch® 300 uses presets via the SoundTouch® app and the remote control.

Does the SoundTouch® 300 soundbar have Bluetooth® and NFC built in?

Yes.

What accessories are available for the SoundTouch® 300 soundbar?

If you want to add deeper bass to your soundbar, then you can add on the optional Acoustimass® 300 wireless bass module. If you want to have a more immersive surround sound experience, you can add the optional Virtually Invisible® 300 wireless surround speakers. And of course, if you want the full 5.1 experience, you can add them both.
