Connecting a TV to your Wave® radio

Audio output jacks are not standard on all TV brands. Some TVs have more than one set of audio output jacks; others have none.

Note: Most TVs use dual RCA-style connectors for audio connections. The Aux input on the Wave® radio uses a single stereo 3.5 mm connection. You will need an audio adapter to connect a TV that uses RCA-style connectors. This common adapter can be found at most electronics stores.

Use these guidelines to help determine how to connect a TV to your Wave® radio.

If your TV does not have any audio output jacks, you can connect your Wave® radio to the audio output jacks of another source, such as a DVD player, or cable or satellite box. Only the audio from the connected source will sound through the Wave® radio

If your TV has two sets of audio output jacks that are labelled FIXED (FIX) and VARIABLE (VAR), use the jacks labelled FIXED (recommended for the highest sound quality)

If your TV only has VARIABLE (VAR) audio output jacks, you can connect the Wave® radio to them. However, you must turn off your TV's internal speakers. For instructions on how to do this, see below

Setting up your TV to play audio through your Wave® radio

To enjoy the full benefit of hearing TV audio through your Wave® radio, you should turn off your TV’s internal speakers. Your TV may have an onscreen audio menu that includes an option for turning the TV speakers on or off. Your TV audio menu may also include an option for selecting a FIXED or VARIABLE audio output. If possible, use FIXED for the highest sound quality.

These are the most common ways to make these changes to your TV (for instructions specific to your brand of TV, refer to your TV owner's guide):

Selecting FIXED or VARIABLE audio output on your TV

If your TV has outputs labelled "FIX" or "FIXED" you may not need to make any further selections. If you connected to any other type of output on your TV, follow these steps to ensure you are sending a fixed level signal to your Wave® radio:

Using your TV remote, display the audio menu on your TV screen. In most cases this can be done by pressing the Menu button and selecting "Audio"

Locate the "Audio Output" item in the TV menu and select "Fixed"

If you selected "Fixed," turn the TV speakers off (see "Turning the internal TV speakers off" below), exit the audio menu and reduce the TV volume to its lowest setting

If there is no audio output option, turn the TV speakers off (see "Turning the internal TV speakers off" below), exit the audio menu and adjust the TV volume to about 80% of its highest setting

Turning the internal TV speakers off

Newer TVs normally have a setup menu item for turning speakers off. Older TVs may have a speaker on/off switch on the rear panel near the audio output jacks.

Through the TV setup menu:

Using your TV remote, display the audio menu on your TV screen. In most cases this can be done by pressing the Menu button and selecting "Audio"

Locate the "Speakers On/Off" menu item, select "Speakers Off" and exit the menu

Note: If your TV audio menu does not have an option for turning the internal speakers off, exit the menu and reduce the TV volume to its lowest setting

Using the speaker on/off switch:

If the rear panel of your TV has a SPEAKER ON/OFF switch, set it to the "OFF" position and adjust the TV volume to about 80% of its highest setting.
