Changing Image Format option

The Image Format setting in the system menu selects whether your system will format video from the internal DVD player, connected video source, and the system menu for an older-style 4:3 TV or a newer-style 16:9 wide screen TV.

Select an Image Format option.

This option is only available if the TV Aspect Ratio settings is 4:3. For newer 16:9 widescreen TVs, the option is not necessary. For info on setting aspect ratio, see Setting TV Aspect Ratio.

To adjust Image Format for 4:3 aspect ratio:
  1. Power on your system and TV
  2. On the remote, press the System button
Tip: If the system menu does not appear on your TV, be sure the correct TV input is selected
  3. Scroll down to System Setup, then press the Enter button
  4. Scroll down to DVD Setup, then press the Enter button
  5. Scroll down to Image Format
  6. Scroll left or right to select Pan & Scan or Letterbox:
    • Letterbox lets the anamorphic image to pass without adding bars above or below the picture. An unmodified anamorphic picture will appear vertically stretched
    • Pan & Scan adds black bars above and below the anamorphic image so the picture is not stretched
  7. Press the Exit button to exit the menu.
